Echoes from abyssal halls

  • The learned geomancers of the Thaumaturgic Institute claimed to have gazed deep into the depths of the earth during their infamous month-long investigatory trances. Those who survived the process with their minds intact claim that a great and terrible ecosystem lurks beneath the planet’s crust.
  • Vision 25: A vast and empty city within an echoing cavern. Towers of iron carbide kiss dangling stalactites of glimmering crystal. No visible lifeforms. Cacophonous and discordant music plays (source unknown).
  • Vision 32: Emaciated elves, pale and eyeless, march in seemingly endless procession through a cramped tunnel. Hundreds. Thousands. Millions.
  • Vision 182: A heart. Immense. Black. Countless clear tubes. Mechanical arteries pump viscous yellow liquid into the darkness.
  • Vision 14: A subterranean ocean of glowing lava. Within the molten lake are perfect spheres of translucent obsidian. Within each is a foetal god floating in amniotic fluid and waiting to be born.
  • Vision 3: Relatively near-surface (forty fathoms). A hundred torches illuminate a fortress hewn from an enormous stalagmite. Black banners with a golden sun hang limply from its battlements. Preliminary identification: A forward base of the Chthonic Papacy.
  • Vision 132: The core. A sleeping horror of molten metal. One day it will rise from slumber and cast aside the earth like a torn and dirty cloak.
